Middle school girls basketball: Elm Grove, Cope continue to set early pace in district play

The Elm Grove Lady Eagles and Cope Lady Cougars remain on top of the Bossier Parish middle school girls basketball standings through four games.

Elm Grove improved to 4-0 in the eighth-grade district with a 35-23 victory over Greenacres.

The Benton Lady Tigers and Haughton Lady Bucs remained a game back at 3-1. Benton defeated Rusheon 33-23 and Haughton downed Cope 34-12.

Cope defeated Haughton 40-22 to improve to 4-0 in the seventh-grade district. Benton remained one game behind with a 21-11 victory over Rusheon. In the other seventh-grade game, Elm Grove edged Greenacres 32-29 in overtime.

At Cope, Taralyn Sweeney poured in 17 points to lift Haughton to the eighth-grade victory. She hit two 3-pointers.

Paisley Reynolds added six points and Regan Jorstad had four. Madison Trujillo and Annie Chapple combined for six.

Nautyca Batiste and Katie Curtis led Cope.

Brykayla Hampton tossed in 27 points for the victorious Lady Cougars seventh-grade squad. Ja’Laycia Gilliam added eight.

At Benton, Jada Anderson scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Benton eighth-grade team to the win.

Anna Robins had 10 points and eight rebounds. Ayanna Truitt, Ta’Mya Davis and Kelsey Morris combined for eight points. Davis and Truitt also played outstanding defense.

Ella Kate Malley paced the victorious Benton seventh-grade team with 12 points. Kennedy Stevens, Riley Grace Stanford and Leah LaCour combined for nine.

Stanford had 10 rebounds and Tahlor Walker seven. Stevens and Molly Machen were cited for their outstanding defensive play.

The Benton teams wore pink uniforms in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

At Greenacres, Sh’Diamond McKnight scored 22 points and Peyton Pipes added nine to lead the Elm Grove eighth-grade team to the victory.

Toria Brocks tossed in 10 points for Greenacres. Shanterrica Jones added four. Iyona Miller hit a 3-pointer. Carley Jackson, Haley Vallery and Brooke Lee combined for six points.

Sydney Loux hit the game-winning 3-pointer in overtime for the Lady Eagles seventh-grade squad.

Alexis Williams led Elm Grove with 17 points. Loux added seven. Katelyn Konicki and Caeleen Burr scored four each.

Cha’Kendell Wyatt topped Greenacres with 15 points. Kierra Nelson added 10, including a 3-pointer in overtime, and Janie Johnson four.
