Elm Grove and Cope are alone at the top of the Bossier Parish middle school girls basketball standings three games into the district season.
Elm Grove improved to 3-0 in the eighth-grade district with a 43-21 victory over Rusheon Monday. In the other games, Cope got past Greenacres 27-20 and Haughton slipped past Benton 33-26.
Cope improved to 3-0 in the seventh-grade district with a victory over Greenacres. In other games, Benton edged Haughton 15-14 and Elm Grove downed Rusheon 22-12.
At Haughton, Taralyn Sweeney poured in 22 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Haughton eighth-graders to the victory.
Reagan Jorstad, Paisley Reynolds and Madison Trujillo combined for seven points. The Lady Bucs rallied from a 13-7 halftime deficit.
Jada Anderson scored 15 points and had seven rebounds to lead Benton. She hit two 3-pointers.
Anna Robins added eight points and also grabbed eight rebounds. Ayanna Truitt and Juliet Ibanez contributed with their defensive play.
Tahlor Walker hit two free throws in the final minute of the game to lift the Benton seventh-grade squad to the win. After tying the game with 35 seconds left, she hit the game-winner with 9 seconds remaining.
The Lady Tigers had balanced scoring. Kennedy Stevens led the way with four points. Ella Kate Malley and Riley Grace Stanford had three each. Walker, Leah LaCour and Laci Hedgepeth combined for seven.
Walker led Benton with eight rebounds, and Malley had six. Molly Machen and Hedgepeth played outstanding defense.
Kaleigh Brown and Ja’navia Smith led Haughton with four points each. Jennifer Ontiveros, Averi Phillips and Brooklynn Bockhaus combined for six.
At Cope, Nautyca Batiste scored 10 points and Katie Curtis added 10 for the victorious Lady Cougars eighth-grade team.
Toria Brocks topped Greenacres with nine points. Iyona Miller added four points. Shanterrica Jones and Ainsley Ross combined for six.
Brykayla Hampton led the Cope seventh-grade team to the win with 27 points. Ja’Laycia Gilliam added 10.
Cha’Kendall Wyatt tossed in 13 points to lead Greenacres.
At Rusheon, Sh’Diamond McKnight led the victorious Elm Grove eighth-grade team with 23 points. Deidra Williams added eight.
Alexis Williams poured in 21 points to lead the Lady Eagles seventh-graders to the victory.
Darnesha Bonner grabbed eight rebounds.
