Middle school girls basktball: Elm Grove, Benton, Rusheon win 8th-grade games; Cope, Haughton, Greenacres post 7th-grade victories


Leaders Elm Grove and Cope remained undefeated as the second half of Bossier Parish middle school girls basketball district play began Thursday.

Elm Grove downed Haughton, improving to 6-0 in the eighth-grade district. The Lady Eagles now have a two-game lead over Haughton and Benton.

In the other eighth-grade games, Benton defeated Cope 28-17 and Rusheon got past Greenacres 37-26.

Cope improved to 6-0 in the seventh-grade district with a victory over Benton. The Lady Cougars lead Benton and Haughton by two games.

In the other seventh-grade games, Haughton downed Elm Grove 21-10 and Greenacres defeated Rusheon 24-11.

At Cope, Jada Anderson scored 16 points and had nine rebounds for the victorious Benton eighth-grade team.

Anna Robins added six points and five rebounds. Ayanna Truitt and Shanice Simpson were cited for their defensive play.

Katie Curtis paced Cope with seven points and Ashley Lee added six.

Brykayla Hampton continued her outstanding season for the victorious Cope seventh-grade team, pouring in 20 points.

Makenzee Perry and Ja’Laycia Gilliam tossed in eight points each. Kori Rice added six.

Ella Kate Malley led Benton with seven points and seven rebounds. Riley Grace Stanford and Kennedy Stevens combined for seven. Stevens also had six rebounds.

Molley Machen and McKenzie Young played outstanding defense.

At Greenacres, Alerian Johnson poured in 23 points and Amber Conway added nine to lead Rusheon to the eighth-grade victory.

Toria Brocks led Greenacres with 13 points. Shanterrica Jones added six. Ashley Marshall, Iyona Miller and Ainsley Ross combined for seven.

Cha’Kendall Wyatt topped the victorious Lady Mustangs seventh-grade team with 13 points. Kierra Nelson chipped in with seven. Jada Piernas and Alayna Brewster each had a basket.

At Haughton, Sh’Diamond McKnight, who is also having a great season, tossed in 27 points to lead Elm Grove to the eighth-grade victory.

Peyton Pipes added nine.

Brooklynn Bockhaus led the victorious Lady Bucs seventh-grade team with eight points.

Janavia Smith added six and Kaleigh Brown five.

Alexis Williams led Elm Grove with six points.
