Middle school track and field: Benton sweeps boys title, Cope wins girls in first meet of season

Benton swept the boys titles and Cope won the girls division in the first Bossier Parish middle school meet of the season hosted by Greenacres and Cope Tuesday at Airline.

Benton scored 135 points in the 8th-grade boys division. Greenacres was second with 63 and Elm Grove third with 61,

The 6th-7th-grade boys division was much tighter. Benton scored 92 points, edging Cope by five. Haughton was third with 75.

Cope tallied 137 points in the girls division. Benton was second with 103 and Elm Grove third with 67.

A couple of field events weren’t held because of wet conditions.

Benton’s Shamarion Player was a double winner in the 8th-grade boys division. He won the 200-meter dash in 24.10 and the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 3 inches.

Player also ran on the Tigers’ winning 4X200 relay team with Davion Eason, Luis Gomez and Kannon Greer. They ran a 1:40.68.

Elm Grove’s Demarkus Evans won the 100 in 11.70. He also ran on the Eagles’ winning 4X100 relay team with Avery Price, Daniel Jungina and Landon Waits. They ran a 49.20.

Greenacres’ Amari Fielding had an outstanding meet. He finished second in the 100 in 11.78, the 200 in 24.14 and the 400 in 58.84.

Cope’s Lathon Woodland won the 400 in 57.88.

Benton’s Beckett Moore took the 800 in 2:21.40 and ran on the Tigers’ winning 4X400 relay team with Austin Case, Jackson Sullivant and Chris Brown. They ran a 4:08.08.

Benton’s Brody Hutchison won the 1,600 in 5:05.33.

Benton’s Cason Herndon took the 100 hurdles in 14.82 and finished second in the high jump. He and Elm Grove’s Draylin Jackson both cleared 5-2 with Herndon taking second on fewer misses.

Benton’s Tucker Beatty took the shot put with a throw of 126-7.

Other runners-up in individual events were Haughton’s Camron Rickard (800, 2:32.10), Benton’s Chase Miguel (1,600, 5:50.33), Cope’s Ian Sims (100 hurdles, 16.62) and Elm Grove’s Patrick Gray (discus, 105-2).

Haughton’s Kyron Turner was a double winner in the 6th-7th-grade boys division.

He won the 100 in 12.27 and the high jump with a 5-0. He also ran on the Bucs’ winning 4X100 relay team with Jayden Hicks, Jaylon Abney and Kendell Hargrove. They ran a 50.71.

Xavier McDuffy finished second to his teammate Turner in the 100 in 12.41. He also finished runner-up to teammate Kavontre Autry in the 200. Autry ran a 25.52 and McDuffy a 25.89.

Autry, McDuffy, Hicks and Abney won the 4X200 in 1:45.24.

Greenacres’ Karde Galloway won the 400 in 1:04.45 and finished second in the 100 hurdles in 18.22.

Benton’s Malachi Zeiglar won the hurdles in 17.74.

Benton’s AJ Robinson took the 800 in 2:23.78. He also ran on the Tigers’ winning 4X400 relay team with Jacob Cole, Drake Emerson and Wesley Hollowell. They ran a 4:28.96.

Elm Grove’s Brennan Robin won the 1,600 in 5:25.84.

Benton’s Nathan Sprankle took the discus with a throw of 89-11.

Cope’s Austin Bonney scored 20 points in individual events. He finished second in the 800 in 2:36.88 and placed third in the 400 and 1,600.

Other runners-up in individual events were Rusheon’s Quinten Hodge (400, 1:04.68), Cope’s Brady Parks (1,600, 5:27.58), Benton’s Bennett Hamby (discus, 87-10) and Benton’s Kameron Fuller (high jump, 4-10).

Elm Grove’s Javari Flournoy, and Benton’s Nathan Candley and Zeiglar also cleared 4-10 in the high jump.

Cope’s Ze’Kyriah Sykes was a double winner in the girls division.

She won the 100 in 12.89 and the 100 hurdles in 17.67. 

Benton’s Claire Allen took the 1,600 in 5:52.83 and finished second in the 800 in 2:41.28.

Cope’s Taylor Pellonari won the 800 in 2:40.67. She also ran on the Lady Cougars’ winning 4X400 team with Sarah Catherine Tauzin, Antaija Davis and Abbigail Bryant. They ran a 4:47.25.

Cope’s Emma Hahn and Zerri Jones finished 1-2 in the 200. Jones was also second in the 100 in 13.37.

Benton’s Danielle Smart won the 400 in 1:10.08.

The Elm Grove foursome of Makenzie Marshall, Zara Baker, Kenadie Williams and Kenadie Loche won the 4X100 in 52.99.

The Benton foursome of Ryli McCoy, Tati Saulter, Dominique Coore and Taylor Martinez took the 4X200 in 1:54.75.

Benton’s Landri James won the discus with a throw of 76-3. Benton’s Audrey Liles won the high jump with a 4-7.

Other runner-up finishers in individual events were Cope’s Davis (400, 1:10.97), Benton’s Eryn Flowers (1,600, 5:54.38), Haughton’s Camille Brandon (100 hurdles, 18.06), Elm Grove’s Zaniyah Carter (discus, 73-3) and Cope’s Shelby Ledet (high jump, 4-6).

Elm Grove’s Loche also cleared 4-6 in the high jump.
