Middle school track and field: Elm Grove, Benton, Haughton win district titles

Elm Grove, Benton and Haughton won titles as the Bossier Parish middle school track and field season concluded with the district meet Tuesday at Haughton High.

Elm Grove scored 119 points in the girls division. Benton was runner-up with 93. Cope finished third with 78, four points ahead of Haughton.

Benton scored 104 points in the eighth-grade boys division. Cope finished second with 92 2/3 and Rusheon third with 84.

Haughton scored 114.5 points in the seventh-grade boys division to 102.5 for runner-up Benton. Elm Grove was third with 68.5.

Haughton’s Jianna Stewartburgess was a triple winner in the girls division. She won the 400 in 1:01.85, the 800 in 2:34.88 and the 1,600 in 5:50.9.

All three times would rank among the high school leaders in Bossier Parish this season.

Justina Vo finished second in the 800 in 2:39.15 and 1,600 in 6:01.03.

Greenacres’ Brianna Taylor swept the sprints, winning the 100 in 12.92 and the 200 in 26.21. Those times would also put her among the high school leaders this season.

Benton’s Jamie Willis was also a double winner, taking the 100 hurdles in 17.65 and the long jump with a 15-6.5.

Elm Grove’s Mikayla Williams had a good day. She won the discus with an 87-6.5, finished second in the shot put (29-8) and long jump (14-11.5) and third in the high jump.

Haughton’s Janavia Smith took the shot put with a 31-2.5.

Cope’s Arianna Hill won the competitive high jump with a leap of 5-1, one inch higher than Tahlor Walker of Benton.

Elm Grove won the 4X100 relay in 52.90 and the 4X200 in 1:50.25. Benton captured the 4X400 relay in 4:33.34.

Other district runners-up in individual events were Benton’s Erykah Pepp (800, 1:06.25), Elm Grove’s Alliegh Sharpley (long jump, 17-6), Cope’s Makenzee Perry (discus, 86-5), Elm Grove’s Parish Broom (100, 13.39) and Elm Grove’s Kyla Williams (200, 27.78).

Rusheon’s Levi Volcheck was a double winner in the eighth-grade boys division. He won the 800 in 2:25.33 and the 1,600 in 5:46.7.

Benton’s Davis Sellers edged teammate Brendon Kennedy in the high jump. Sellers leaped 5-7, one inch higher than Kennedy.

Sellers also finished third in the discus and shot put. Kennedy was second in the long jump with a 17-4 and third in the 200.

Haughton’s DJ Gladney won the long jump with an 18-6 ¾.

Rusheon’s Torenzo Bunnery claimed the 100 in 11.15. Cope’s Caleb Williams and Christian Minor finshed 1-2 in the 200 (no times were available).

Cope won the 4X100 relay in 48.53 and 800 in 1:39.01. Rusheon took the 4X400 in 4:02.22.

Other district champions were Elm Grove’s Malachi White (shot put, 40-5), Greenacres’ Keegan Lehr (100 hurdles, 14.87), Haughton’s Zach Haley (discus, 118-0) and Rusheon’s Zachary McGhee (400, 57.91).

Other district runners-up were Greenacres’ Christian Jeter (1,600, 5:49.4), Greenacres’ Jyson Thomas (shot put, 39-10 ½), Greenacres’ Logan Thurman (100 hurdles, 15.2), Cope’s Clinton Nwokejicei (discus, 108-11), Benton’s Zach Zeiglar (800, 2:28.09); Elm Grove’s Cameron Marshall (100) and Cope’s Quoziel Ghoston (400, 59.51).

Haughton’s Dexter Smith was a triple winner in the seventh-grade boys division. He won the 100 in 12.12, the 200 in 25.32 and the long jump with a 17-6 ¾.

Elm Grove’s Trent Lape won the 1,600 and finished runner-up in the 400.

Lape ran a 5:37.37 in the 1,600 and a 1:02.48 in the 400. Cope’s Zach Leaver won the 400 in 1:00.61.

Benton’s Matthew Fritts and Nate Sessions finished 1-2 in the 800. Fritts ran a 2:33.23 and Sessions a 2:37.64.

Haughton’s LaTrell Cooper won the shot put with a 35-11 ½ and finished second in the 100 in 12.75.

Benton’s Sawyer Simmons won the 100 hurdles in a close race against Haughton’s Jesse Normandin. Simmons ran a 16.60 and Normandin a 16.66.

Benton’s Tyler Trotter took the high jump with a 5-4. Haughton’s Adrian McClindon was second with a 4-11.

McClindon also finished runner-up in the long jump with a 16-2.

Elm Grove’s Jake Morton edged Benton’s Cole Lattimer in the discus. Morton threw 45-8, three inches farther than Lattimer.

Haughton won the 4X100 relay in 50.91 and 4X200 n 1:45.86. Greenacres won the 4X400 in 4:20.61.

Other district runners-up were Rusheon’s Caden Miser (1,600, 5:37.8), Rusheon’s Remundo Slocum (shot put, 33-6) and Greenacres’ Andrew Bridges (200, 26.00).

Othe third-place finishers in the girls division were Greenacres’ Aly Campbell (400), Benton’s Walker (long jump), Elm Grove’s Taniya French (100 hurdles), Benton’s Kenlee Perkins (800), Elm Grove’s Jada Stewart (discus), Haughton’s Madelyn Johnson (1,600), Cope’s Ke’Oshanay Hampton (100, 200) and Benton’s Perry (shot put).

Other third-place finishers in the eighth-grade boys division were Rusheon’s Dakota Miser (1,600), Benton’s Luke Ward (long jump, 100 hurdles), Benton’s Jaime Garcia (800), Rusheon’s Jaylyn Williams (100), Greenacres’ Lehr (400) and Greenacres’ Gavin Ashworth (high jump).

Other third-place finishers in the seventh-grade boys division were Elm Grove’s Carlos Sosa (discus), Greenacres’ Colby O’Glee (1,600), Greenacres’ Cozy Graham (shot put), Benton’s Mason Neil (long jump), Haughton’s Cayden Hinkie (100 hurdles), Cope’s Brenden Brooks (800), Cope’s Kameron Allen (100), Benton’s Josh Sanchez (200, 400) and Benton’s Brady Blaylock (high jump).
