Flights restore intrastate commercial air service for first time since 2004

New Orleans-based GLO will restore intrastate commercial air service for the first time since 2004 as the inaugural flight between Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and Shreveport Regional Airport (SHV) launches on December 14.

The route between New Orleans and Shreveport is the third route for the Mid-South and Gulf regional air service startup, which also services Memphis and Little Rock.

To celebrate its launch, GLO (Pronunciation: /ɡlō/) is offering promotional one-way $99 “GLOforIt” fares (including tax and fees) for all flights through Feb. 1, 2016.

Business travelers can take advantage of these new non-stop routes before completing 4Q, and leisure travelers can spend more time with family and friends during the holidays. Both travelers will benefit from earning more time at their destination—instead of stuck in traffic or waiting on a connecting flight at the airport.

“After years in the making, the GLO team is fully prepared to deliver our mission of optimizing business and leisure travel intrastate and within the Gulf and Mid-South regions,” said Trey Fayard, Founder and CEO of GLO. “This is a historic moment for our company and the Greater New Orleans and Shreveport-Bossier regions, and I am grateful to every member of our experienced team who has helped GLO take flight.”

GLO passengers will be able to enjoy a quality alternative to road travel or connecting flights with non-stop flights operated by Corporate Flight Management, Inc. (CFM). On-board service inside the 30-passenger Saab 340B aircraft will include complimentary beverages and snacks. GLO’s seat pitch—also known as leg room—is one of the most spacious in the business, and passengers will also be treated to complimentary local publications.

Henry Thompson, A.A.E., IAP, Director of Airports at SHV said, “We welcome GLO’s launch of non-stop service between Shreveport Regional Airport and New Orleans Louis Armstrong Airport. This important route provides a vital link between the Ark-La-Tex region and Louisiana’s largest city; a prime leisure and business destination. It is going to be important that we as a region now show our full support and appreciation for this wonderful new service by filling those seats.”

“The Shreveport-Bossier Convention & Tourist Bureau is excited about the launch of GLO’s Shreveport-Bossier to New Orleans flights,” said Stacy Brown, president of the Shreveport-Bossier Convention & Tourist Bureau. “Not only will they make business travel easier, but it will also encourage those from South Louisiana to enjoy the great things to see and do in North Louisiana.”

GLO has created five direct and indirect jobs in Shreveport. GLO is now Shreveport Regional’s fifth commercial air service provider and increases the airport’s number of nonstop destinations served to seven. At Louis Armstrong Airport, GLO is the 14th air service provider and brings the total number of nonstop destinations to 50.

“We are very excited to see GLO provide intrastate air service between Shreveport and New Orleans,” said Iftikhar Ahmad, Airport Director of Aviation for Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. “This New Orleans-owned and based air carrier is poised for growth within our state and region.”
