Nine parish players make All-District 1-5A baseball first team

Airline junior Kyle Backofen has been named the Pitcher of the Year on the All-District 1-5A baseball team selected by the district’s coaches.
Backofen, a left-hander, went 6-1 overall with a 2.15 ERA. He struck out 68 in 58 2/3 innings. He was 3-0 in district play with a 1.12 ERA. he had 30 strikeouts in 25 innings.
Airline’s Toby Todd, who guided the Vikings to the district championship and a 24-11 record, was named Coach of the Year.
Captain Shreve senior catcher Bryant Bowen was named the MVP. He batted .478 overall with 25 doubles, seven home runs and 39 RBI. In district play he hit .469 with nine doubles, four home runs and 17 RBI.
Three other Airline players made the first team — senior pitcher Andrew Lowe, junior third baseman Peyton Davis and senior shortstop Tanner Daniel.
Five Haughton players were first-team selections — junior pitcher Triston Carmack, junior second baseman Tyler Davis, sophomore outfielder Jonathan Plant, senior designated hitter Seth Ryan and senior shortstop Sam Wallace, who was a utility selection.
Lowe, an Ole Miss signee, was 7-2 overall with a 1.26 ERA. He struck out 75 in 55 2/3 innings. He went 4-0 in district with a 1.25 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 28 innings.
Peyton Davis batted .427 overall with eight doubles, two home runs and 33 RBI. In district play he had a .547 batting average with five doubles and 23 RBI.
Daniel hit .294 overall with seven doubles and 10 RBI. In district play he batted .360.
He was also a standout in the field.
Carmack went 8-3 overall with a 1.97 ERA. He had 63 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings. He was 4-1 in district play with a 2.33 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 30 innings.
Tyler Davis batted .375 overall with seven doubles and 14 RBI. In district play he hit .429.
Plant batted .323 overall with six doubles, four home runs and 27 RBI. In district play he had a batting average of .298 with three doubles and 15 RBI.
Ryan batted .357 overall with four doubles and 28 RBI. In district play he hit .372 with 16 RBI.
Wallace had a .330 batting average overall with seven doubles and 10 RBI. In district play he hit .420 with four doubles.
Airline senior pitcher Andrew Maxey and junior outfielder Cameron Taylor made the second team. Haughton senior outfielder Seth Bradshaw also made it.
