Northwest Louisiana Office of Public Health and Southern University at Shreveport to host opioid symposium

The Louisiana Department of Health’s (LDH) Office of Public Health (OPH) in Region 7 (Northwest Louisiana) and the LDH Bureau of Community Preparedness will host a no-cost opioid symposium on Tuesday, September 24.

The symposium is being held in partnership with Southern University at Shreveport’s (SUSLA) Division of Allied Health and Nursing from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Southern University at Shreveport, Alphonse Jackson Building Auditorium, 3050 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Shreveport.

The symposium will offer education about the opioid epidemic in Louisiana and ways to prevent accidental opioid overdose. Presentations include:

  • “Primary Care Perspective: Life After Recovery”
  • “Harm Reduction Strategies”
  • “What Recovery Looks Like”
  • “Current Trends in Opioid Urine Drug Test Results”

The symposium is open to SUSLA students, staff, faculty and the public. Seating is limited, so registration is strongly encouraged. Registration will end on Friday, September 20.

Event partners include Humana Healthy Horizons in Louisiana and Louisiana Healthcare Connections.
