Obituary: Aubrey Lynn Miller

Plain Dealing – Funeral services for Mr. Aubrey Lynn Miller, age 74, will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the Plain Dealing Church of Christ, Plain Dealing, LA, with Bro. Waymon Swain and Bro John Billingsey officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Plain Dealing with full military graveside rites by U.S. Navy Honor Guard, under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home Plain Dealing, LA.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 5-8 pm at the residence, 612 East Mary Lee Street in Plain Dealing.

Mr. Miller was born on December 30, 1939 to Aubrey Earl and Mabel Young Miller in Judsonia, AR and passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 in Shreveport. He graduated from Plain Dealing High School in 1957 and studied at Harding University before enlisting into the U.S. Navy in 1959. He spent the next 20 years serving his country. After doing 2 tours in Vietnam, traveling the world, and achieving the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer, he retired in 1979. After retiring from the Navy, Lynn entered into civilian life. He worked in the oilfield, taught math at Plain Dealing High School, was night Marshall for Plain Dealing for several years, and held an engineering position for Hutchins and Wunnenburg, before retiring for good in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta D. “Robbie” Miller; two sons, Richard Miller and wife, Michelle, Jeffrey Miller and wife, Pamela; stepdaughters, Melinda Day and husband Wimberly; Amanda Wright and husband Chad; Kelly Gross and husband Rod; and Lane Stone; one stepson John Stone and wife Ginger; grandchildren, Carolyn, Steven, Lily, Joshua, Jacob, Justin, Devon, Brayden, Madison and Caroline; sister, Tommie Lou Swain and husband, Waymon; two brothers, David Earl Miller and Timothy “Tim” Miller and wife, Connie; and sister in law, Patsy Boyd Miller, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 20 years, Lawana C. Miller; a brother, Larry G. Miller and a sister, Ella Sue Miller.

Pallbearers will be David Clawson, Steven Clawson, Ken Clawson, Adam Miller, John Stone, George P. Fritze, David L. Davis, and J. D. Babb. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Day, Justin Day, Devon Wright, Brayden Wright and Steven Miller.

The family would like to give special thanks to Victoria Beaver and the nurses and staff at the Guest Care at Spring Lake for their care during his stay.
