BOSSIER CITY – Carl Wayne Southerland, age 82 of Bossier City, LA, passed away on September 13th, 2015. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 16th, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Young officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15th, 2015 from 5-7 PM at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.

He was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on January 15, 1933, Carl graduated from Lakeside High School in Hot Springs, Arkansas and received and Associate’s Degree from BPCC in 1975.

He was married to Margaret Southerland on October 14, 1954. Carl retired from the USAF after 20 years as a TSgt. in air traffic control. He also worked for the USPS as a letter carrier for 22 years. He was an 8 year veteran of the Bossier Parish Sherriff’s Dept. Posse, also serving as honor guard. He was a member of South Bossier Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, American Legion Post 191, Spirit of Bossier Exchange Club, Post Chaplain with Veterans of Foreign Wars and also serving with the honor guard and 32nd Degree Mason with the Martin-McClanahan Lodge.

Carl is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Southerland, Parents, Carl and Vada Southerland, Sisters, Bonnie and Berneice, and Brothers, Fred, Elza, and Leroy.

He is survived by his children, Candy E. Southerland of Bossier City, David L. Southerland of Bossier City, Melanie Southerland Pearce and husband Mark A. Pearce of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Four grandchildren, Reagan Huckabee and husband Josh of Humble, TX, Mark E. Pearce and wife Jennifer of Doyline, Adam Southerland and wife Robin of Haughton, Halle L. Southerland of Bossier City, seven great grandchildren, Mason, Ava and Abby Huckabee, Brianna and Brian Southerland, Austin and Ashley Clouston. Carl is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “The Young Marines” through the Bossier Parish Sherriff’s Dept.
