BOSSIER CITY – Carroll Benson “C.B.” Spurgin, Jr., age 89, of Bossier City, Louisiana, passed away on November 25, 2016. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Harrell Shelton of Airline Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Mausoleum. The family will be receiving friends Tuesday evening, November 29, 2016 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
Carroll was born in Melissa, Texas on November 4, 1927. He was joined in marriage to Opal Elizabeth Carpenter in 1945 and moved to this area in 1952. Carroll was an entrepreneur, building a moving and storage company, American Van and Storage as well as a successful cattle and quarter-horse ranch. Through the years he served in many banking and service leadership roles in this community including President of Bossier City Lions Club and Bossier Chamber of Commerce; Member of Lions Club since 1958; Member of Board of Directors of National Bank of Bossier and Red River Valley Bank; Member of Bossier City Planning Commission; and a Lifetime Louisiana Cattleman. Carroll was also a member of Airline Baptist Church and the Minute Men Sunday School Class.
Carroll went to be with his Heavenly Father peacefully on Friday morning. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal and their sons, Philip and Kenneth; parents, Carroll Benson Spurgin, Sr. and Lucy Helen Walden Spurgin. He is survived by daughters, Carolyn, Martha, Laura and Mary; brother, Charles; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and son-n-laws.
