BOSSIER CITY, LA – Dorothy Koeppen, 84, left her earthly life to be with our Lord on December 7, 2015. She was born August 3, 1931 in Manchester, NH and died December 7, 2015 in Bossier City, LA. Dorothy donated her body to LSU Health Shreveport Medical School.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 64 years, Kenneth Koeppen; sons Kevin Koeppen and wife Ginny, Jeff Koeppen and wife Pilar, Sean Koeppen and wife Jill; daughters Kelli Lindsey and husband Mike, Kim Cyr and husband Donnie; son-in-law Pat Turnage; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; her sister Mary Winslow; numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved pets.

She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Goonan and Elizabeth DeNies Goonan; brother Donald Goonan, sister Patricia Palreiro; daughter Lynda Turnage and granddaughter Heather Turnage.

Dorothy was an employee of Schumpert Medical Center for 20 years, and continued to work as a home health nurse until the age of 80. During the 30 years she worked in home health, she lovingly cared for 7 long-term patients. Dorothy always considered her patients to be part of her family.

Dorothy was a faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. She was passionate about the study of God’s word, and enjoyed reading the Scriptures and praying the Rosary daily. She was a giving and generous person, who always put the needs of others before her own. Dorothy was also passionate about animal rescue and loved all of God’s creatures. She and her husband Kenneth welcomed numerous dogs, cats and parrots into their home over the years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, bird-watching, and working in her flower gardens. Our hearts are heavy with the sudden loss of our beloved Dorothy. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated for Dorothy on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church, Benton, LA, with Fr. Pike Thomas officiating. Visitation with the family will be held at the Church at 10:00 a.m.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the emergency room staff at Willis-Knighton Bossier.
