She was the library associate for Northwestern State University School of Nursing for 23 years and retired at the age of 79. She met Federico “Fred” Fernandez at Louisiana Tech where they fell in love and married December of 1952. Married for 58 years, Dot and Fred raised their 2 daughters, Dory and Susie.
She was preceded in death by her husband Federico Fernandez; her parents, Chester and Pearl Robinson; her brother Marcus Robinson and sisterin- law Ginger Robinson. As a member of Koran Baptist Church, her greatest achievement was her service to God through teaching, serving on church committees, and mentoring youth and young adults.
Dot faithfully cultivated a family atmosphere with delicious cooking, baking, and after-church meals each and every Sunday. She was the heart of the family and loved to sing, write, read, and play games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren all share fond memories of Grandmommy singing “You Are My Sunshine” from as early as they can all remember. Dot’s beautiful, signature smile and warm charisma were staples of her personality, and her unconditional love will always be remembered.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support in many heart-felt forms from countless people and organizations including: Willis-Knighton Hospice, Riverview Care Center, family, friends, and neighbors. A special thank you to Ricarda Carlisle, our most heartfelt thanks for being such a compassionate and competent caregiver for four years.
