BOSSIER CITY, LA – Services were held for Ernest “Leonard” Sharp, 90, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel with Bro. Milton Geltz officiating. Interment followed at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family received friends for visitation on Saturday, at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service.

Leonard was born to George Bernard and Linnie Danner Sharp in Porterville, MS. After graduating at the top of his high school class, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served onboard the U.S.S. Pittsburgh and U.S.S. Uhlmann in WWII. Leonard attended Mississippi State University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture and later Tulane University for his Master’s Degree in Social Services. His career began in Mississippi, before moving on to Texas and then for the State of Louisiana. In addition to assisting in many adoptions in his many years as a social worker, Leonard loved music, good home cooking, and spending time with his family.

Leonard was a member of North Highlands United Methodist Church in Shreveport, LA, where he served as Greeter and Usher for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Birdie Sharp, parents G.B. and Linnie Sharp, and brothers, Curtis, Eugene and Lamar Sharp.

Leonard is survived by his son, Leonard Ray Sharp and wife Lynn, of Brandon, MS; daughter, Sandra Sharp Powell and husband James of Bossier City, LA; grandchildren, Colby Sharp and wife Amy, Shane Sharp, Lori Ann Powell Piscioneri and husband Michael, Jeremy Powell and wife Rhonda, Jamie Powell Sutton and husband Matt and great grandchildren, Taylor Lee Powell, Britney Ann Powell, Grant Sharp, Abigail Sharp, Grayson Sharp, Hunter Sutton, and Hallie Sutton.

The family would like to thank Heritage Manor of Bossier and Amedisys Hospice for the comfort and care they have shown.
