Obituary: Gerald Allen Conley


BOSSIER CITY – Gerald Allen Conley, beloved husband, son, father, and friend went to meet his Lord and Savior in the early morning on September 22, 2016. Gerald passed away at his residence in Bossier City, Louisiana while under the loving care of his wife, Elzora, and St. Joseph Hospice Care of Shreveport.

Gerald was born on December 1, 1955 in Rochester, New York to Joseph Conley and Bessie Mae Washington-Conley of Palmetto, Florida. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Conley, two sisters, Betty Bell of Florida, and Doris Evon Arterberry of New York and two brothers, Jimmy Conley of Ohio, and Willie Leon Conley of New York.

Gerald was the seventh of thirteen children. He joined the U.S. Army in June of 1975. During his service, he met and married his wife of 40 years, Elzora Williams-Conley of Shreveport. They returned to live in Bossier City, Louisiana in 1994, where he began work at the Isle of Capri Casino, which changed to Diamond Jacks Casino, until he became sick in February 2016.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Elzora Conley of Bossier City; one daughter, Tyra Conley of New York; mother Bessie Mae Washington-Conley of Florida; five sisters, Patricia Ann Dasher, Rose Marie Conley, and Selena Conley all of New York, Laquisha Conley of Florida, and Theresa Conley of North Carolina; three brothers, Joseph Conley Jr., Sylvester Conley, and Kevin Dale Conley, all of New York. Also surviving him are his 3 grandchildren, Jamaal Hucks, Elijah Hucks, and Taryn Conley, three great grandchildren Jamiaah, Saniyah, and Arianna Hucks, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Bellaire Baptist Church in Bossier City, Louisiana on Monday, October 3 at 1:30 p.m. with burial immediately following the service at Hill Crest in Haughton, Louisiana. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
