Gloria Tumminello Bennett
BOSSIER CITY, LA – Gloria Tumminello Bennett passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 after a sudden illness. Gloria was born on January 5, 1935 in Alexandria, Louisiana to Louis Gena and Edna Tumminello of Colfax. Gloria was raised in a loving home in Colfax until she married her high school sweetheart Charles Oliver Bennett and they celebrated 54 happy years together. Early in their marriage the couple moved to Lafayette, Louisiana for Charles to attend USL. After graduation, they moved to Bossier City where he and his brother David opened Bennett Wheel Alignment which operated for many years. Gloria retired from the Bossier Parish School board after 20 years of service. After she and Charles retired from the School Board, they spent their time traveling and engaged in many social events and causes. Known for her southern sense of style and grace, she was the epitome of a true Southern Belle. In her younger years, Gloria was appointed to the Krewe of Prometheus in New Orleans and later was a member of the Krewe of Gemini as well as countless clubs and social organizations. A devout Catholic, Gloria was a long standing parishioner at St. Jude Catholic Church.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Charles and her daughter Denise. She is survived by her sons Chuck and wife Beverly of Haughton, David Louis and spouse Gary Jaynes of Shreveport and Robert and wife Kim of Bryant. AR. She is also survived by her brother Buddy Tumminello and wife Karla of Pineville, her grandchildren Amy Bennett of Benton, AR, Chas and wife Amber of Haughton and CeCe, John Robert and Matthew all of Bryant, AR. Also left to cherish her memory are her great grandchildren Jude and Charlotte Bennett of Haughton.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 20 at 11:00 a.m. St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Pike Thomas as celebrant. Visitation will be held Friday, February 12 from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, LA 71037. Graveside Services will be held Saturday, February 13 at 12:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
The family would like to sincerely thank Lisa, Penny and the caring staff of Brookdale of Bossier City, Holly at the Ritz salon for keeping Gloria beautiful until the end, the staff of St. Genevieve and her many friends who have offered their help, friendship and love throughout the years.
