Obituary: Janie Barnette Adkins

BOSSIER CITY – Funeral services celebrating the life of Janie Barnette Adkins, age 95, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel in Haughton, LA, with Chaplain Keith Adcock officiating. Interment will follow at the Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton, LA. There will be a time of visitation from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2015, at Hill Crest Funeral Home in Haughton, LA.

Mrs. Adkins was born June 11, 1919, in Arizona, LA to her parents; Thomas Blanchard Barnette and Mary Blanche Barnette and passed away on January 31, 2015, in Bossier City, LA. She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother as well as co-owner and office manager of Adkins Welding and Ornamental Iron.

Mrs. Adkins was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 67 years, A.R. Adkins; sister, Edna Earl Corley; brothers, Max Barnette and Gahagan Barnette; and a niece and nephew. She is survived by her son, Aaron Buck Adkins and wife Gloria; daughter, Janice Adkins Stromseth and husband Quentin; grandchildren; Julia Adkins, Michael Mangham, Melanie Tanaka and husband, Don, Melinda Mangham; great-grandchildren; Michelle Tanaka, Melissa Tanaka; sister, Carolyn Warren and husband Billy Glen; sister-in-law, Jackie Crunkilton. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Honoring Mrs. Adkins as pallbearers will be Thomas Barnette, Timothy Barnette, Michael Mangham, Billy Glen Warren, John Noonan and Carl Ray.

The family would like to extend their grateful appreciation for the years of love and care to Dr. Ted Warren. The wonderful medical care provided by WK-Bossier’s doctors and staff will also be remembered. The staff of The Arbor of Bossier contributed to her well-being and happiness during the 12 years she was a resident. The family wishes to thank the super staff of Colonial Oaks Nursing Home where she has been a resident since October, 2014. The tender care and ease provided by Robyn Watkins and her aide, Debbie, of Christus Schumpert Hospice in the past week will also be remembered.
