BOSSIER CITY – Services celebrating John Alan Broadwell, age 58, was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 5th at Grace Community United Methodist Church, 9400 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport, LA. Pastor Juan Huertes of Grace Community UMC officiated the service.
John was born in Anderson, SC on August 21, 1957 and died surrounded by those he loved most in his home on Wednesday, September 2, 2015. He was a graduate from Chatham Township in New Jersey, University of New Orleans, and Loyola Law School, New Orleans. After graduation John “married his way” to Shreveport where he married Diane and together raised their children Christopher and Heather.
Faith, family, and friends brought John great joy and he will be missed by many. John was preceded in death by his father, Wilton W. Broadwell and is survived by his wife of 31 years Diane Davis Broadwell; son, Christopher Broadwell and wife, Emily Broadwell; granddaughter Hattie Broadwell; daughter, Heather Broadwell Roan and husband, Andrew Roan; mother, Jean Moore Broadwell; brothers, Dr. Larry Broadwell and wife, Louise; Terry Broadwell and wife, Mary; and many nieces and nephews.
John enjoyed God’s creation around him, especially working with Diane in their yard. He loved people and sought mercy and justice during his years of law practice and serving God in different area churches. John was never afraid to ask tough questions of his faith to draw him closer to his Creator. He was a gifted teacher, always eager to learn more. His goal in life was to love and accept others, which is reflected in his children today.
The Broadwell family extends special thanks to Dr. Richard Haynie, Dr. Anil Veluvolu and staff, Dr. William Parker, the WK Cancer Center chemo nurses and aids; and Lucy Grove of Willis Knighton Hospice for their love, care, and support over many years.
In lieu of flowers John has requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Philadelphia Center.
