HAUGHTON – A visitation service celebrating the life of Merry Christine Cook will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton, LA, on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, from 5-8 PM. Funeral services and interment will be held in Bossier City, LA, at a later date. Merry was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Bossier City, LA.
Merry was born in Beeville, TX, on Christmas Day, 1941. As a woman of faith and grace, Merry transitioned into eternal life on July 9, 2015, after succumbing to the effects of brain tumor.
Merry was an avid bowler for over 50 years. She belonged to many women’s and mixed women’s/men’s leagues in Houston, TX, and most recently in Bossier City. Merry loved to compete in bowling tournaments, and did so at local, state, and national tournaments. Merry also loved to play “the slots”, especially with her friends, Judy, Carol, Joyce, and Stacy, to name a few. If her friends were not around, she made new friends instantly. She was appropriately named Merry, a word that accurately describes her personality. She loved interacting with people and making “Merry”. She also loved watching daytime television game and drama shows on CBS, while loving on her cats.
Merry was a compassionate, loving, loyal daughter, sister, friend, and feline enthusiast. She was a blessing to all who knew and loved her. There’s a hole in our hearts made by her passing, but the heavens are brighter because Merry is there, reunited with loved ones gone before her.
Merry was predeceased by her parents, Raymond Richard Cook, Sr., and Lausta P. Cook; and sister-in-law, Lila Jo Cook. Merry is survived by her sister, Dr. Sally E. Cook; brother, Raymond Richard Cook, Jr.; nephew, Brad Alan Cook and his daughter, Jordan Taylor Cook; niece, Dr. Ann Cook McLeod and husband Bill; niece, Kim Macy and husband Ralph; maternal uncle, Harold Powell; and several cousins.
The family would like to express a special thanks to: friends Judy Kidd, Joyce Van Zandt, Carol Miller, Dr. Susan Pierce, Kathleen Julian, and Dr. Diana Bienvenue; and The Guest Care Spring Lake, especially the nursing staff on the Medicare Unit, the Rehabilitation Department, the administrative staff, and Martha, the Assistant Director of Activities.
