NORMAN H. CORKRAN III

Norman H. Corkran III, a resident of Rocky Mount, Bossier Parish, Louisiana, died on Monday June 6, 2016 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Baker County, Florida. He was born on April 25, 1941 in Aireys, Dorchester County, Maryland to the late Norman H. Corkran, Jr. and Delema H. Corkran.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents and his brother Walter R. Corkran. He grew up in Cambridge, Maryland and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1959.

He was a graduate of Syracuse University, Louisiana Tech, and Northwestern State University. He held several advanced degrees from both Louisiana Tech and Northwestern State University. He served in the United States Air Force for 25 years, starting as an enlisted Airman and obtaining the rank of Major, and retired in 1987.

He was also retired from the Bossier Parish School Board, having served for 20 years as a counselor at Plain Dealing Middle School. He married Charlotte Elizabeth Morris Corkran in 1964 and she traveled with him during his 25 year USAF career.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Charlotte Elizabeth Morris Corkran; two daughters, Cheryl Anne Corkran of Bossier City, and Adrienne Corkran-Plantinga, son-in-law Willem Alexander Plantinga, two grandsons, Nathan Alexander Corkran Plantinga and Walter Gerritt Corkran Plantinga, all of Tomball, Texas; his brother, Thomas M. Corkran and sister in law Nancy Corkran of Cambridge, Maryland; sister in law and brother in law, Deborah L. Walters and Ronald C. Walters, of Palm Coast, Florida; sister in law, Theresa C. Morris of Pasadena, Maryland.; nephews Ken Morris of Baltimore, Maryland, Pat Morris of Pasadena, Maryland, and niece Terry Morris Ziolkowski of Pasadena, Maryland.

Mr. Corkran has been cremated and his remains will be buried at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, LA in a private family ceremony.

Family visitation will be held at Plain Dealing First United Methodist Church on Friday July 8 from 5-7 P.M. A memorial service will be held at the Plain Dealing First United Methodist Church on Saturday July 9, at 12 noon.
