Rocco Trapani

Benton, LA – Rocco Trapani, age 88, was taken up by the Lord on May 4, 2018 at his home after a long illness. He was born in Pittsfield, MA on November 23, 1929, the son of Bruno D. and Francesca Trapani.

Rocco joined the U.S. Air Force in 1947 and rose to the rank of Master Sergeant before being accepted to Officers Candidate School which he successfully completed. He served at various bases in the U.S. as well as bases in Newfoundland, Greenland, and Japan. From there he was deployed to Korea at the outbreak of the Korean War where he served with distinction.

After the war, he was assigned to Perrin Air Base, Texas where he met his beautiful wife Donna. He retired there at the rank of Captain after twenty years of service.

After retirement Rocco was employed as an Air Traffic Controller at Barksdale Air Base, Shreveport, LA. He retired in 1987 after twenty years of service.

In his retirement Rocco enjoyed spending time with his wife, family, and friends. He was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger, and he had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved fishing on his homeside lake catching bass and just enjoying the peace and beauty of the surrounding area.

Rocco is survived by his loving wife of fifty three years, Donna Norris Trapani, loving daughter Francesca Gordon (Bill); devoted brothers Anthony (Helen), Joseph, Dominick, and Mario (Marie); adoring grandchildren, Rebecca Herrold (Aaron), Thatcher Blair, Kandace Catcart (Bryan), Travis Trapani (Keisha); nine great grandchildren, and seventeen nephews and nieces who loved him dearly.

Preceding Rocco in death are son, Kristopher and his wife Beth and daughter Robin Blair.
Private memorial services will be held at the family home alongside the lake he loved so much. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association at 745 Olive Street Suite 111, Shreveport, LA 71104.
