Obituary: Roy Leonard Newton

BOSSIER CITY – Roy Leonard Newton, 82, passed away on November 14, 2015. He was born in San Augustine County, TX on January 18, 1933. Services celebrating the life of Mr. Newton will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in the Chapel on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Chaplain Jay Valentine. Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Roy was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a purchasing agent for Air Force One during the Nixon Era and retired as a SMSgt from The United States Air Force after over 20 years of service. He also served as a deputy for the Bossier Parish Sheriff Dept. for over 10 years and was a retired Fire Commissioner for South Bossier Parish after 17 years of service. He was a member of the Vietnam Vets Association, the LA State Firemen’s Association, and the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jessie, Carl, Glynn and Edward Newton and his first wife of 55 years Nelva Vallette Newton. He is survived by his wife of 8 years Francis “Deon” Newton; daughter, Kala Newton; grandson whom he raised, John Coy Newton (USMC); stepsons, Justin Hutchens (USARMY) and wife Melisha and Jesse Hutchens; his grandchildren, Jacob Hutchens, Harleigh Hutchens and Ragan Stephenson. Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Alvin, Jim and wife Martha, John, Wayne and wife Katie and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy was a very loving and caring person who cared deeply for his family. He was the historian of the family and the keeper of the family tree. Everyone who knew him loved him.

Full Military Honors will be presented by the Honor Guard of Barksdale AFB and the Patriot Guard Riders.
