Obituary: Sidney I. Riggs “Pops”

BOSSIER CITY – Services to honor the life of Mr. Sidney I. Riggs, 92, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Marcus Robertson. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. The family will receive guests on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Riggs was born in Shreveport, LA on November 4, 1922 to parents, Walter and Vergie Riggs and passed away on the evening of January 31, 2015. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran and served his country proudly during WWII. Sidney was later employed as a pipe fitter superintendent and retired after 35 years with Todd’s Ship Yard in Galveston, TX. He resided in the Galveston County area for many years before moving to Bossier City and becoming a resident of the NW LA War Veterans Home.

Mr. Riggs was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred; his parents; two brothers; and two sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Shirley Olives and husband Bob, Billie Ogden and husband Joe, and Sandra Brewer; brother-in-law, Tony Santoro; grandchildren, Jodi Ogden, Sidney Ogden and wife Kyla, Daryl Brewer, Norman Brewer, and Jill Stevenson; and great-grandchildren, Mason and Madison Ogden, and Kendall and Cassity Stevenson.

Honoring Mr. Riggs as pallbearers are grandsons, Sidney Ogden, Daryl Brewer, and Norman Brewer; and cousins, Jerry Crenshaw, Tommy Crenshaw, and Larry Rucker.
