Thomas Steen Rodgers
Plain Dealing, LA – Graveside services for Mr. Thomas Steen Rodgers, age 84, will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Plain Dealing Cemetery, Plain Dealing, LA with Rev. Chad Hardbarger and Rev. Scott Teutsch officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 1, 2016 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Plain Dealing Baptist Church, Plain Dealing.
Mr. Rodgers was born on September 20, 1931 to Charles Arthur and Catherina Magaretha Steen Rodgers in Plain Dealing, LA and passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 in Bossier City, LA. He was a member of Plain Dealing Baptist Church and was a U. S. Marine Corp. Veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. He was a farmer for many years and retired from Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office after 12 years of service. He enjoyed working at the farm, his animals, gardening, crawfishing, and preparing places for duck hunting for his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Norma Davis Rodgers; three daughters, Gretchen Boggs and husband, Tommy of Bossier City, Amy Lipscomb of Bossier City, Dana Jones and husband, Billy of Plain Dealing; eight grandchildren, William Weems and wife, Nicole, Jacob Fredieu and wife, Noah, Taylor Jones, Cody Jones, Kendall Lipscomb, Kadin Lipscomb, Allison Boggs, Jennifer Boggs; one great-grandson, Landon Weems and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Rodgers was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Louise Pilkinton, Carrie Nell Barrett; and brothers, C. A. Rodgers, Jr. and James Rodgers.
Pallbearers will be William Weems, Jacob Fredieu, Ricky Ashworth, Tommy Boggs, Charles DeMoss and Billy Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Byrd, Pete New, Sonny Gore, James Ashworth, Wayne Davis, Eddie Chandler, Johnny Wilkins, Elvin Ervin and Bill Hearn.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Kennedy Lim and his nurse Carla and Willis Knighton Bossier Administration, Doctors, Nurses and Staff for their care during Mr. Rodgers illness.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, The Wounded Warrior Project or charity of the donors choice.
