Obituary: Veronica “Ronnie” Jan Walsh

Life Celebration services for Veronica Walsh will be held 10 AM Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton, LA. The family will receive visitors from 6 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the Funeral Home. Rev. Gabriel McCormick will serve as officiant for the service.

James and Janet Cheatham welcomed Veronica Jan to this world on Christmas Eve 1955 in the small town of Magnolia, AR. Ronnie loved life, loved to laugh, and loved her family most of all. She retired after thirty years of faithful service to the State of Louisiana; first at Shreveport Mental Health Center and later at LSU Health Shreveport, Department of Psychiatry. In the little spare time that she had, she volunteered her time with the Boy Scouts as a den leader of Pack #203 in the NORWELA council and also as the Troop #203 advancement chairperson. In her retirement, she filled her time exploring hobby after hobby with her sister, and best friend, Landy. Ronnie’s lengthy but valiant fight for her life concluded when she passed peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2017.

Preceding Mrs. Walsh in death are her father, James Allen Cheatham and grandparents. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Michael Walsh; mother Janet “Ma” Cheatham; Sons Ryan Michael Walsh (Catherine) and Erin Cardin Walsh; Siblings Dennis Cheatham (Donna Lynn), Mary Donna Teer (Carl), Sandra Davis (Steve), Landra LeBlanc (Bruce) and Renia Walker (Steve). Also left with fond memories are several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews who were all dearly loved.

The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to all the doctors and staff who cared for her diligently. These precious people come from many locations including Willis Knighton-Bossier, University Health (LSU), Progressive Care Center-Rehab and Garden Court-Rehab.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made in her honor to the church or charity of your choice.
