Obituary: William Gehlen Padgett


William Gehlen Padgett was born on November 14th, 1947 to Louis H. Padgett, Jr. and “Hootie” Calhoun Padgett in Shreveport, Louisiana. Gehlen, a life-long resident of Bossier City graduated from Bossier High School in 1965.

Gehlen was a faithful officer with Bossier Parish from 1973 to 2002. He made detective in 1980. He was selected as Louisiana Law Enforcement Officer of the Year in 1991. Gehlen was a great asset to Bossier Parish for 30 years, always looking to help those that needed it. He didn’t look at law enforcement as a duty as much as an opportunity to impact people’s lives for the better.

Gehlen is now with His father and mother that have preceded him in death. He is survived by His wife, Rose Upshaw Padgett, daughters Rebecca Roseberry (Husband Tim Roseberry) and Ginger Patterson (Husband Brooks Patterson), two grand-daughters Lindsey and Madeline Roseberry, sisters Kay Byrd, Becca Barker, Francee Woods, Amy Nell Saylors, and brother Buddy Padgett.

A memorial Service will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home at 2201 Airline Drive Bossier City, Louisiana on Friday, April 7th at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Tim Roseberry (Gehlen’s son-in-law) officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cypress Baptist Church or St. Jude’s Hospital in honor of Gehlen.
