With flu season approaching, it’s time to roll up your sleeves for an annual flu vaccine. Ochsner LSU Health is offering a convenient option to get a flu vaccine in Shreveport for patients ages six months and older. A special flu clinic will take place at Ochsner LSU Health – Spring Lake Primary Care on Saturday, Sept. 21, 8 a.m. to noon. The clinic is located at 8445 Line Avenue, Suite 100, Shreveport, LA 71106.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the flu vaccine prevents millions of illnesses and flu-related doctor visits each year. Additionally, the vaccine has been shown to reduce the risk of severe illness. Individuals ages six months and older are recommended by the CDC to receive an annual age-appropriate flu shot.
Appointments can be made by calling 318-626-0050 and walk-ins are welcome. Patients should bring an ID and insurance card to the scheduled appointment time. The cost of flu shots will vary based on health insurance.
Ochsner LSU Health also offers other convenient and safe options to get a flu shot:
- Schedule an appointment with a primary care physician or pediatrician through MyOchsner or call 318-626-0050.
- Visit an Ochsner LSU Health Urgent Care location, which can administer flu shots to adults and children ages six months and older.
Flu symptoms are typically abrupt and include body aches, fever, chills, cough, sore throat, and nasal congestion. Some of the symptoms of flu and COVID-19 are similar, so testing may be needed to confirm a diagnosis. Patients are encouraged to use Ochsner Connected Anywhere, which connects patients to Ochsner Urgent Care via virtual visits through the MyOchsner app from the comfort of home. Patients can also use the MyOchsner app to access care through an E-Visit with their primary care team or available Ochsner clinicians ensuring a response within two hours.
