World War II veteran Olan Wise celebrated his 100th birthday Feb. 16.
Wise served in the Air Force during World War II and was stationed in Guam as a cook. He currently resides at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Bossier City.
A special birthday party was held in his honor Friday afternoon. Local, state and national dignitaries presented him with special certificates and proclamations. Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker and Benton Mayor Shelly Horton, Jr. each presented Wise with keys to the city.
Then, guests sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Wise and enjoyed some refreshments, including a piece of cookie cake with red, white and blue icing.
As for being 100, Wise said he simply “feels fine.”
“If I keep going like this I’ll make it another hundred (years),” he said with a smile.
Wise credits this milestone birthday to his faith.
“I’ve been a Christian all my life,” he said. “I put my trust and faith in the saving grace of my Lord Savior Jesus…I’ve just lived a straightforward life and that’s what I recommend.”
