BOSSIER CITY – Services celebrating the life of Olis Milford (Barney) Barnette, 83, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Bellaire Baptist Church, 1210 Bellaire Boulevard in Bossier City. Officiating will be Dr. Randy Harper, Pastor of Bellaire Baptist Church, Rev. Keith B. Rowe, Chaplain for Southern Care Hospice and family friend and Dr. Jim Nunnelee, former Pastor of Bellaire Baptist Church and close family friend. Interment, with full military honors, will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Bellaire Baptist Church and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the services on Monday.
Mr. Barnette was born on July 24, 1930, in Isola, Mississippi to Ollie B. and Willie Obera Helms Barnette and went home to be with the Lord on September 12, 2013. He was a member of Bellaire Baptist Church for 43 years, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Departmental Secretary and a member of various Church Committees. He proudly served his country in the Air Force for twenty years, retiring in 1972 as a TSgt. Following his retirement, Barney partnered with John Porter, forming Porter-Barnette Carpet Cleaning. He later established Barnette Carpet Cleaning which he operated with his son, Bobby, until his illness in 2012. Barney enjoyed fishing and taking care of his friends in his lawnmower shop.
Mr. Barnette was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arnold Helms, Clyde Barnette, Curtis Barnette, R. C. Barnett and Charles E. Barnette; and sisters, Louise Ausbon and Bessie Cook.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Lamkin Barnette, three sons, Wayne (Jackie) of Shreveport, Billy, and Bobby (Suzanne) both of Bossier City; three sisters, Sarah Tharpe and Dorothy Duett, both of Indianola, MS and Jeanette (Harold) Curley of Bossier City; 4 grandchildren, Shane (fiancé Chelsea Zeringue), Phillip, Rebekah and Noah; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family, Keith (Joy) Rowe, Kyle (Tonya) Rowe and Jennifer (Jason) King and a host of friends.
Honoring Mr. Barnette as pallbearers will be: his nephews, Hal and Jason Curley; Bill Thacker, Virgil Jester, John Davis, Wayne Todd, Steve Anderson, and Ricky Harper. Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard Shaw, George Jernigan, the members of the David Sunday School Class of Bellaire Baptist Church and the men of the Mackey Class.
