Santa Claus is coming to town Monday to kick off Operation Santa Claus, the annual toy drive coordinated by local law enforcement, firefighters and media, on Monday, Nov. 30, 10:00 a.m. at Townsquare Media in Shreveport.

Firefighters will drive Santa on a big red fire truck, and law enforcement officers exchange Rudolf’s red nose for blue lights as they escort Santa to the station.  Officers, firefighters and radio personalities will then join Santa in providing toys to a few dozen young boys and girls at the radio station to kick off the season of giving that will help about 1,000 boys and girls in our area receive Christmas gifts.

Operation Santa Claus teams the Shreveport Fire Department, Shreveport Police Department, Bossier Sheriff’s Office and Townsquare Media to provide Christmas toys to disadvantaged children in the Bossier and Caddo Parishes.  They can’t do it alone, though, and OCS relies on individuals, businesses and organizations that are so generous in giving toys and monetary donations each year so children can enjoy Christmas.

“The firefighters and officers who work in neighborhoods and communities get to know the needs of these children, and Townsquare Media becomes our voice for the program,” said Jeff Williams, fire prevention officer with the Shreveport Fire Department.  “But we rely on the public to help us with donations of toys and money so that we can all be a blessing and provide Christmas toys to children less fortunate.  Smiles on their faces make it so worth it.”

There are a number of ways the community can support OSC and help provide Christmas presents to needy children.

OSC will be operating live radio remotes on these dates to encourage folks to drop off new unwrapped toys or donations:

  • Dec. 1, 7 – 9 a.m., Brookshires, 9250 Mansfield Road (corner of Bert Kouns)
  • Dec. 3, 7 – 9 a.m., Citizens National Bank, 2711 East Texas St. in Bossier
  • Dec. 8, 7 – 9 a.m., Rite-Aid on corner of Youree Dr. and Southfield
  • Dec. 10, 7 – 9 a.m., Brookshires, 1125 Highway 80 in Haughton

You can also drop off unwrapped gifts at any Citizens National Bank or at Townsquare Media, located at 6241 Westport Ave. in Shreveport.  You can also mail donations to “Operation Santa Claus,” 6241 Westport Ave., Shreveport, LA 71129.  Please make checks out to “Operation Santa Claus.”

Folks can also call the OSC phone number, 773-GIFT (4438), which is manned Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or go to  or the Operation Santa Claus Facebook page for more information and other scheduled events.

The last day to drop off toys will be Dec. 16, and the toys will be delivered on Dec. 22 and 23.
