It’s time to lace your running shoes and join first responders and media personalities for the Operation Santa Claus 5K Run on Saturday, Sept. 10, to help raise funds to provide Christmas gifts for children who are less fortunate right here in northwest Louisiana. Our motto is “Making Kids Smile.”
The run will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Louisiana State University in Shreveport campus on the E. Kings Highway side.
Operation Santa Claus in an organization joined by the Shreveport Police and Fire Departments, Bossier Sheriff’s Office and Townsquare Media to ensure every kid receives a Christmas gift this holiday season.  Law enforcement officers and firefighters sign up the children and families who have needs, and the community pitches in with toy and monetary donations that will go directly to hundreds of needy children right here in our area.
The Kids ½ Mile Run will start at 8 a.m., and the 5K will begin at 8:15 a.m.  Early registration continues through Aug. 31 with a cost of $20; after that, the cost is $25 through race day.  Kids (12 and under) registration is $15.  You may pay with a credit card online only at www.sportspectrumusa.com or pay with cash or check at 6970 Fern Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71105.   Be sure and register early; no shirts are guaranteed to late registrants.  Prizes will be awarded for the top finishers in the Kids Run and 5K.
There are various age groups for runners age 13 through 60+.  Overall male and female finishers receive $200 for 1st, $150 for 2nd and $100 for 3rd.  Each top age group finishers receive an award as well.  For the 12 and under runners, the overall finisher in the Kid’s Run will receive $50.
Strollers, wagons, baby joggers and any hand pushed or pulled vehicle will be allowed on the course, but at a walk pace capacity only. Absolutely NO in-line skates, roller skates or runners with baby strollers will be allowed on run course. This rule is an RRCA regulation!
