Opinion: Count your blessings

2308

Next week is Thanksgiving, one of my very favorite holidays.

Giving thanks is what this day and this time of year is all about. I count my blessings several times a day and I also thank God for the many wonderful blessings that HE has bestowed upon me, my family, my co-workers and my friends.

During this time of year, my heart turns toward doing for others. There are several passages in the Bible where blessings and giving thanks are mentioned: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV), tells us, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” and, Psalm 9:1 (NIV) says, “I will give thanks to you Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.”

RandyWhat I love about being thankful is that it results in us focussing on God rather than focusing on ourselves. To quote Romans 8:28 (NIV): “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to HIS purpose.”  Thus, when we focus on being thankful, counting our blessings, doing for others and turning our eyes upon God, both our hearts and our souls are warmed; and our spirits are lifted.

As I mentioned above, I am blessed and thankful to have a great family, wonderful co-workers, a great church, church family, and many wonderful friends. Here at our newspaper, mere words can not express how blessed and thankful I am to work with such a capable and dedicated staff.

Besides our daily business activities, our BPT team has also done things of a very kind and caring nature on several occasions. Last week, we threw a surprise bridal shower for our team member Amanda Crane, who is getting married in December. Furthermore, over the past few years, we have also participated together as a staff in the Salvation Army Angel Tree, Operation Santa Claus, “Shop With A Cop,” etc.

So, as Thanksgiving and the soon to come Christmas season approaches, what are you thankful for? How many blessings do you have to count? Please be sure to thank God for your blessings each and everyday! Also, be sure to thank both your family, friends and  co-workers for the many blessings they add to your life each and every day!
