Parish teams win soccer openers

Airline defeated Southwood 10-0 in District 1-I soccer opener Monday night at Tinsley Park.

The opening night of the 2013-14 high school soccer season was mostly a success for Bossier Parish teams.
In girls District 1-I games at Tinlsey Park, Parkway downed Captain Shreve 6-0, and Airline routed Southwood 13-0. Haughton dropped an 8-0 decision to Caddo Magnet at Cargill Park.
In girls non-district games, Benton dropped North Caddo 4-0 and Bossier edged Minden 3-2.
In boys District 1-I games, defending champion Airline drubbed Southwood 10-0 and Parkway fell to Captain Shreve 6-2.
In a non-district game, Benton ripped North Caddo 9-0.
Mackenzie Kleinpeter had a hat trick for the Parkway girls.
Madeline Wheelahan, Hannah Wagener and Morgan Ersoff had assists on Kleinpeter’s goal.
Wheelahan also scored off an assist from Ali Kelly and assisted on a goal by Elizabeth Knight.
Airline’s Rachel Cochran had a hat trick in the victory over Southwood.
Madi Walter had two goals and two assists. Savannah Howell and two goals and one assist.
Sam Maiette and Jordan Travis had two goals each.
Jordan Wilcox had one goal and two assists. Allison Lockhart scored a goal. Kenya Thompson and Rebecca Shumate had one assist each.
Shelby Plunkett, the MVP on The Press-Tribune’s All-Parish team last season, got off to aĀ  good start with a hat trick against North Caddo.
Abby Lauterbach also scored a goal.
Alyssa Tuggle scored twice and Kepna Sinnie once to lead Bossier past Minden.
Yulissa Noguez and Jackie Morales had one assist each.
Haughton coach Russell Melton said he was pleased with team’s effort.
Freshman keeper Lindsey Fay and freshman center mid Ciara White played well, he said. Fay had 20 saves.
Robert Spraggins had three goals and an assist in the Airline boys’ first game under new coach Samuel ā€œKikoā€ Portales.
Esteban Guevara had a goal and an assist. Art Villareal, Nick Rizzo, Michael Dickson, Mang Tang and Ian Hill scored one goal apiece.
Nick Berry, John Luke McFarland, Dickson and Villareal all had one assist.
The Parkway boys kept it close against Shreve early, trailing 2-1 at the half. But the Gators dominated the second.
Ethan Whitehead and Dillon Rogers scoredĀ  two goals each to lead Benton past North Caddo.
Ethan Parks scored one goal and had two assists.
Daniel Valcho, Ryan Mutchler, Edwin Lopez and Sam Vickrey also had goals. Lopez and Bailey Grimes had one assist each.
Goalkeeper Mitchell Matthews had three saves in the shutout.

In non-district games Tuesday night, the Benton boys won their second straight game 2-0 over Neville, and the Airline girls downed Benton 7-1.

Parks had a goal and an assist to lead the Benton boys. Michael Bailey scored the other goal. Mitchell Matthews had his second straight shutout with 11 saves.

Shumate led the Airline girls with two goals. Wilcox, Madi Morris, Kloee Davis, Howell and Haylie Travis scored one goal apiece. Walter had two assists, and Travis had one.
