The Parkway Panthers advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 5A football playoffs with a 52-25 victory over East St. John Friday night in Reserve.
The No. 2 seed Panthers (11-0) will play at No. 10 Zachary (9-3), a 34-30 winner over No. 7 New Iberia, next Friday.
The Panthers jumped on East St. John early, rolling to a 34-0 lead. East St. John scored a pair of touchdowns after recovering consecutive onsides kicks in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 45-25, but it was too little, too late.
Parkway quarterback Brandon Harris completed 12 of 27 passes for 284 yards and three TDs. He also rushed seven times for 61 yards and two touchdowns. William McKnight scored two touchdowns. Brodrick Jefferson caught three passes for 119 yards and a TD. Demetrius McAtee had a touchdown reception, and Avery Shoebridge kicked a 20-yard field goal.
In a Class 1A second-round game, No. 13 seed Louisiana New Tech at Plain Dealing fell to No. 4 Basile 42-8 on the road. The Lions, who finished 6-6, hung trailed just 14-8 at the half. Basile improved to 11-0.
