Parkway, Bossier baseball tournaments start Thursday; Parish 1-5A softball teams open district play

Only a few Bossier Parish baseball and softball teams got their seasons underway Monday. Then rain wiped out Tuesday’s games.

Both seasons will be in full swing starting Thursday.

Five local teams are competing in the Nathan George Invitational baseball tournament hosted by Parkway.

Parkway hosts Calvary and Benton visits Haughton in today’s tournament openers. Both games start at 6 p.m.

Haughton scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat St. Mary’s 4-3 in its opener Monday. Benton will be looking to bounce back from a 6-1 season-opening loss to Airline.

On Friday at Parkway, Evangel faces Benton at 6 and then takes on Parkway at 8. At Haughton, the Bucs face Calvary at 6.

All games Saturday are at Parkway. Benton plays Parkway at 11 a.m. and Calvary at 1:30 p.m. Haughton takes on Evangel at 4 and then comes back at 8 to play Parkway in the tournament finale. Calvary plays Evangel at 6:30.

The Bossier Invitational also starts Thursday and runs through Saturday at Bossier’s field at Rusheon Middle School.

Elsewhere, Airline is scheduled to play four games Friday and Saturday in the Lafayette tournament. The Vikings play Lafayette High twice. They also play Crowley and Acadiana.

In softball action, Airline opens its season at home at 6 p.m. Thursday with a big game against defending champion Byrd. The Lady Jackets went undefeated in district play last season.

In other 1-5A openers, Haughton hosts Captain Shreve and Parkway visits Evangel.

It will also be the season opener for Haughton. Parkway opened its season Monday with a 5-1 loss to Ouachita Parish in Monroe.

Bossier opens its season at Jonesboro-Hodge Thursday.

Airline, Parkway and Benton are competing in the North DeSoto tournament Friday and Saturday. Haughton is in the Northwood/Southwood tournament.
