Parkway junior Sara Funderburk finished second in the girls’ division and senior Hayden Kingfisher third in the boys’ in the Catholic High Invitational cross country meet Saturday in Baton Rouge.
Funderburk covered the 3-mile course in 18 minutes, 53 seconds. First Baptist’s Gabrielle Jennings won in 18:11.80. The field included 278 runners.
Kingfisher ran a 15:36. Devyn Keith of John Curtis won in 14:59. Parkway’s Prynceton Fant finished 19th in 16:30.40. The field included 300 runners.
Parkway was the runner-up in the boys’ division with 96 points. John Curtis won with 69. Other Panthers in the scoring were Nathan Poovey (23rd, 16:37.40), Jacob Hammons (24th, 16:37.70) and Cole Billiot (31st, 16:44.70).
According to Parkway coach Kent Falting, Saturday’s meet marked the first time in school history the boys beat Catholic, St. Paul’s and Brother Martin.
Parkway finished fifth in the girls’ division with 195 points. The Lady Panthers were the top Class 5A team.
Other Lady Panthers in the scoring were Celeste Cordova (45th, 21:12.10), Mackenzie Langen (50th, 21:24.50), Linsey Hutcheson (58th, 21:30.80) and Rylie McConnell (65th, 21:56.30).
