Parkway takes second in own wrestling tournament

The host Parkway Panthers captured second place in 2014 Lone Survivor Wrestling Tournament held Saturday at Parkway.

The Panthers scored 199 points to 273 for champion Live Oak. Benton was third with 175 and Bossier fourth with 159.

Live Oak wrestlers won six of the 14 weight divisions. The Eagles finished third in the Division II state tournament last year.

Parkway had two individual champions — Jason Pitts at 120 pounds and Zac Funderburk at 145.

Pitts defeated Airline’s JuJu Jones in the finals by a 12-7 decision. Funderburk defeated Ryan Huffty of Central of Baton Rouge 9-4.

Five other parish wrestlers won titles — Benton’s Andre Dean (152), Benton’s Jordan White (160), Bossier’s Jalen Oliver (182), Bossier’s Donnie Edwards (220) and Bossier’s Kendrick Washington (heavyweight).

Four Parkway wrestlers finished runner-up — Alex Simmaly (113), Ryan Huckaby (126), Nathan Pitts (132) and Hunter Huckaby (138).

Other parish runner-up finishers were Bossier’s Andrew Jones (152), Airline’s Tyler Almond (182) and Benton’s Chauncey Taylor (heavyweight).

Parish third-place finishers were Haughton’s Zac Denton (106), Haughton’s Dylan Holliday (113), Airline’s Tony Lococo (138), Benton’s Tre’ Pugh (145), Parkway’s Austin Smith (152), Bossier’s Chris Hall (170), Bossier’s Isaiah McKinsey (195), Parkway’s Dalton Meshaell (220) and Airline’s Eric McGuire (285).

Parish fourth-place finishers were Parkway’s Matthew Pitts (106), Benton’s John Caskey (132), Benton’s Jeff Lewis (138), Benton’s Layton Spears (170), Haughton’s Brandon Tolliver (182), Benton’s Austin Wilson (195), Benton’s Chandler Beach (220)
