Pentagon chief makes another pitch for Space Force

The defense secretary is making a pitch to Congress to create a Space Force as a separate military branch.

Patrick Shanahan is due to testify before the Senate Armed Services Committee, according to the Associated Press, regarding the Trump administration’s plan to accelerate the development of U.S. space defenses.

Some committee members have expressed skepticism about the need to establish a Space Force as a separate military service.

AP cites Shanahan’s remarks that says Space Force is required to maintain America’s “dominance” in space as China and Russia are “weaponizing” space.
