Six parish lifters qualified for the LHSAA Powerlifting State Championship meet.

Competition in all five girls divisions is Friday. The Division I and II boys meets are Saturday. The meet is being held at ULM’s Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Parkway’s Christopher Strong, the North Region champion, is one of the favorites in the Division I boys 123-pound weight class.

His 1,030-pound total in the regional ranks second among the qualifiers. Strong had lifts of 460 pounds (squat), 265 pounds (bench) and 315 (dead).

He broke his own regional record in the bench press.

Strong finished runner-up last year with a 1,015-pound total.

Airline’s Trenton Barfield (132 pounds) and Willie Sanders (242) also qualified for the Division I boys meet.

Three Benton lifters qualified in Division I girls — Reece Weaver (123), Grace Anne King (165) and Karley Holtzclaw (super heavyweight).

Holtzclaw ranks third among qualifiers in her weight class. She was fourth last year.
