Prep basketball: Bossier girls advance to finals of own tournament; Benton boys, girls win

The Bossier Lady Kats advanced to the championship game of the Lady Kats Invitational with a 69-39 victory over the Parkway Lady Panthers on Thursday night at Bossier.

Necka Wynn led the Lady Kats with 27 points, including seven 3-pointers. She hit five in the first half to help Bossier build a big lead. Bossier hit 10 3s in the game.

Brittany Wallace added 12 points and played well on both ends of the floor. Essence Phelgm scored nine.

Kendall Lewis led Parkway with 14 points and Chelsea Randle added 10.

In the other semifinal game, Plain Dealing fell to defending champion West Monroe 45-35. Dranautika Thomas led the Lady Lions with 14 points. Teunna Perry added eight.

In a consolation semifinal, Booker T. Washington defeated Huntington 50-44.

Bossier and West Monroe face off in the championship game on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Plain Dealing faces Green Oaks in the consolation semifinals at 2:30 p.m. Saturday with the consolation championship scheduled for 4.

In the Haughton Jack Clayton Invitational, the Benton Tigers edged the Haughton Bucs 46-41 in overtime in the boys consolation semifinals.

Cameron Robinson led the Tigers with 10 points. Jessie Little added nine, Bubba Osby eight and Jerriyun Lawrence seven.

Lawrence made three of five free throws in the overtime. Osby, a freshman, scored six points in the fourth quarter and two in overtime.

Antonio Woodfork and Martay Grant paced Haughton with 10 and nine points, respectively.

In boys first-round games, Parkway fell to Byrd 66-58 and Minden downed Lakeside 52-36.

Christian Harris scored 15 points and Trey Webber 14 to lead Parkway. Phillip Stewart led Byrd with 16 and Kary Ashley had 13.

In boys semifinal games today at Haughton, Byrd takes on Minden at 5:30 and Calvary plays Haughton at 8:30. The championship game is at 2:30 Saturday at Haughton.

In girls division first-round games Thursday, Captain Shreve defeated defending champion Ruston 47-43, North DeSoto dropped Lakeside 48-25 and Minden defeated Neville 75-59.

In girls semifinal games Friday, Minden faces Captain Shreve at 5:30 at BPCC and Haughton takes on North DeSoto at 7 at Haughton.

Elsewhere, Benton improved to 7-1 with a 39-36 victory over Walker, last seasons’s Class 5A runner-up, in the St. Michael tournament in Baton Rouge.

Aimee Gentry led the Lady Tigers with nine points, including two big second-half 3-pointers. Brandy Harris and Emily Ward scored eight each, and LeLe Carper had six.

Ward, a freshman, hit four free throws in the final 30 seconds of the game.

Airline fell to St. Thomas Aquinas in the St. Michael tournament. Brittany Roberson, Tyra Kidd and Camilla Rodriguez all scored eight points for the Lady Vikings.
