Prep basketball: Haughton girls advance to title game of Clayton Invitational

The Haughton Lady Bucs advanced to the finals of the Haughton Jack Clayton Invitational with a 74-30 victory over North DeSoto Friday night at Haughton.

The Lady Bucs will play Minden, a 57-40 winner over Captain Shreve, in the championship game Saturday at 1 p.m.

In Friday’s boys semifinals, Byrd defeated Minden 70-46 and North DeSoto rallied from a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Calvary Baptist 67-66 in overtime. The Yellow Jackets and the Griffins will face off for the championship at 2:30 p.m.

Benton plays Lakeside in the boys consolation finals at 11:30 a.m. Northwood defeated Lakeside 44-29 in a girls consolation semifinal game and will face Ruston at 10 a.m. in the finals.

Cassandra Simmons led four Haughton players in double figures against North DeSoto with 15 points. Champagne Dennis added 12, Inez Geen 11 and Mayghan Myers 10.

Bossier faces West Monroe in the championship game of the Bossier Lady Kats Invitational at 6:30 Saturday.
It’s a rematch of last year’s title game won by the Lady Rebels.

Plain Dealing plays Green Oaks at 2:30 in the consolation finals with the winner scheduled to play Booker T. Washington in the finals at 4.

In the St. Michael girls tournament in Baton Rouge, Benton fell to Mandeville 50-43 and Airline lost a tough 40-38 decision to West Ouachita.

Tyra Kidd led Airline with 14 points.
