The Haughton Lady Bucs, Parkway Lady Panthers and Plain Dealing Lady Lions won first-round tournament games Wednesday night.
Haughton defeated Northwood 46-14 in the Haughton Jack Clayton Invitational at Haughton. It was the first win of the season for the Lady Bucs.
In the Bossier Lady Kats Invitational, Parkway dropped Green Oaks 61-55 and Plain Dealing slipped past Booker T. Washington 47-46.
In first-round boys games in the Haughton tournament, Benton fell to North DeSoto 71-50 and Haughton lost to Calvary Baptist 49-38.
Ten Lady Bucs scored in Haughton’s win. Champagne Dennis led the way with 10 points and Morgan Buxton added eight. Bethany Knotts and Mary Gladney scored six each.
Haughton plays the winner of Thursday’s 4 p.m. first-round game between North DeSoto and Lakeside in the semifinals Friday at 7 at Haughton.
In other first-round girls games Thursday, Minden plays Neville at 5:30 and Ruston faces Captain Shreve at 7.
At Bossier, Chelsea Randle scored 18 points and Kendall Lewis 16 to lead Parkway past Green Oaks. Niaya Fant added nine points and Jasmine Nicholson-Edie had eight.
Jasmine Anderson led Green Oaks with 26.
Dranautika Thomas scored 20 points to lead Plain Dealing past BTW. Darmesha Noble had 11.
In another first-round game, defending champion West Monroe downed Huntington 51-36.
Parkway (4-2) plays Bossier, which received a first-round bye in the seven-team event, in the semifinals Thursday at 7:30, Plain Dealing (3-1) plays West Monroe in the other semifinal at 4:30. BTW and Huntington meet in a consolation semifinal at 6.
In the Haughton boys tournament, Haughton jumped out to an 8-0 lead against Calvary but the Cavaliers responded with a 20-2 run. Even so, the Bucs trailed only 20-15 at the half.
Calvary went on a 12-3 run in the first six minutes of the third quarter to go up 32-18. But Haughton cut the lead to seven going into the fourth when Darius Brooks was fouled shooting a 3-pointer with one second left and made all three free throws.
The Bucs got as close as two with 5:30 left in the fourth and were still within 38-35 with 3:21 to play. But Haugton went cold and turned the ball over. The Cavs took advantage and closed the game with an 11-3 run.
Haughton (2-3) faces Benton (1-3) in a consolation semifinal at 7 p.m. Thursday at BPCC.
Benton got 12 points from Bubba Osby and 11 from Jerriyun Lawrence in the loss to North DeSoto. Tim Howard led the Griffins with 18 points. Jeffery Goodman and Greg Hall added 14 each.
North DeSoto plays Calvary at 8:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinals at Haughton.
