Prep basketball: Plain Dealing girls reach semis of Minden tournament; Parkway, Airline boys advance to consolation semis

The Plain Dealing Lady Lions advanced to the semifinals of the Gibsland Bank & Trust Minden Holiday Classic girls division with a 56-42 victory over the Haughton Lady Bucs on Friday.

Plain Dealing faces Minden at 9:30 a.m.. Saturday at Minden High. The winner advances to Saturday’s 7 p.m. championship game at Minden. Southwood battles undefeated Red River at 10:50 in the other semifinal.

In other quarterfinal games Friday, Minden got past Montgomery 64-60, Southwood defeated Camden, Ark., 50-35 and Red River downed El Dorado, Ark., 53-32.

Darmesha Noble led Plain Dealing with 17 points against Haughton. Hershey Stumon added 13 and Dranautika Thomas 10.

Airline and Parkway advanced to the boys consolation semifinals with victories Friday. The Vikings edged Haynesville 37-36 and the Panthers downed Northwood 53-31.

Airline and Parkway face off at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Minden Rec Center. The winner plays the Calvary-Doyline winner at 5:30 p.m. at Minden High for the consolation title.

In winners’ bracket quarterfinal games Friday, Minden edged Red River 73-71, Mansfield topped Neville 63-47 and Woodlawn knocked off Camden, Ark., 63-48.

Minden faces Loyola at 12:10 p.m. at Minden High in the first semifinal game. Mansfield takes on Woodlawn at 1:30 in the second. The championship game is at 8:30 at Minden High.
