Prep basketball: Six parish teams advance in Doc Edwards Invitational

Six Bossier Parish teams won first-round games in the Doc Edwards Invitational basketball tournament Saturday.

The tournament is sponsored by Willis-Knighton Health System and hosted by Airline.

Airline, Bossier and Benton were winners in the 16-team boys bracket. The Vikings got past Many 58-50, the Bearkats routed North Webster 78-32 and the Tigers edged Red River 61-60.

Parkway fell to defending District 1-5A champion Fair Park 57-54 in overtime. Plain Dealing lost to Huntington 58-37.

In other boys first round games, Southwood defeated Northwood 60-30, Mansfield downed Captain Shreve 52-41 and Green Oaks edged 2014 runner-up Byrd 84-79 in overtime.

Benton, Bossier and Plain Dealing advanced in the 12-team girls division. the Lady Tigers defeated Green Oaks 66-43, Bossier downed Captain Shreve 54-45 and Plain Dealing dropped Woodlawn 60-57.

In the other first-round girls game, Byrd defeated Huntington 45-30. Airline, North Caddo, Southwood and Red River received first-round byes.

Trent Ivy and KJ Bilbo scored 16 and 14 points, respectively, in the Airline boys‘ win. Jacob Guest added nine and Fred Lemons eight. The teams were tied at 38 after three quarters, and Airline pulled away in the fourth.

Ten players scored in Bossier’s victory. Senior Larry Robinson led the way with 18 points. Tyrese English added 13 and freshman Jacoby Decker had 12. Quatavious Capers had nine points and four steals. Antonio Davis had eight points and three blocks.

Benton rallied in the fourth quarter against Red River after trailing by five after three. Jessie Little topped the Tigers with 13 points. Jalen Harding added 10. Jerryiun Lawrence and Cameron Harris scored nine each. Bubba Osby chipped in with eight.

The Parkway-Fair Park game was close all the way and went into OT tied at 48. The Indians outscored the Panthers 9-6 in the extra period.

Robert McKnight led Parkway with 15 points. Justin Rogers added nine and Kamren Davis eight. Donnie Perkins paced Fair Park with 15.

Keldrick Carper scored 21 points in Plain Dealing’s loss.

Jonathan Bell poured in 42 points in Green Oaks’ victory over Byrd. He made four 3-pointers.

Brandy Harris scored 28 points and Emily Ward had 16 in the Benton girls’ victory over the Lady Giants. Aimee Gentry and Lazaria Lloyd scored 10 each. Ward and Gentry each hit two 3-pointers.

Bossier avenged a one-point loss to Captain Shreve in the season opener. Necka Wynn led the Lady Kats in scoring with 14 points. Brittany Wallace had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The Lady Kats get a shot at undefeated Red River in the second round Monday.

Plain Dealing scored 39 of its 60 points in the second half in the win over Woodlawn. Dranautika Thomas led four Lady Lions in double figures with 19 points. Teauna Perry added 14, Darmesha Noble 12 and Hershey Stumon 10.

The tournament resumes Monday after a break Sunday.
