The Airline Vikings suffered their first loss of the season, 37-7, to the Evangel Christian Academy Eagles Friday night at Evangel’s Rodney Duron Stadium.

Evangel (7-1, 4-0), ranked No. 8 in Class 5A, took sole possession of the District 1-5A lead with the victory. Fifth-ranked Airline (7-1, 3-1), Byrd and Parkway are tied for second.

Thanks in part to some special teams mistakes, the Vikings dug themselves a 27-0 hole and couldn’t climb out.

Airline, which came into the game averaging 43.4 points, wasn’t able to get much going offensively against the Evangel defense. The Vikings’ only touchdown came late in the first half on an 85-yard pass from Thomas McKain to Cameron Howell, who shook off several Evangel defenders and sprinted to the end zone.

Brian Fielding led Airline with 30 yards on 11 carries.

Evangel did most of its damage on the ground. Jamarquez Mims rushed for 167 yards on just 13 carries and scored three touchdowns, including one on a pass reception.

Airline hosts Byrd Friday. The Yellow Jackets (7-1, 3-1) defeated Green Oaks 41-12 in a non-district game Thursday night.

Fair Park 30, Bossier 14: At Independence Stadium, the Indians pulled away in the second half for the District 1-4A victory.

The game was tied at 14 at the half and Bossier (3-5, 0-5 1-4A) trailed just 22-14 going into the fourth quarter.

Aareon Smallwood led Bossier with 97 yards on 20 carries. He scored one touchdown.

Keimun Daniels rushed for 56 yards and completed three passes for 39.

Joseh Bush gained 38 yards on nine carries and scored a touchdown.

Derrick Jones had one reception for 23 yards.

Bossier plays Huntington (1-7, 0-5) Friday at Northwood Stadium. The Raiders fell to North DeSoto 54-18 Thursday night.

Cedar Creek 49, Plain Dealing 8: At Ruston, the Cougars proved to be too much for the Lions to handle in the District 1-1A game.

Plain Dealing dropped to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in district.

Plain Dealing visits D’Arbonne Woods Charter Friday. D’Arbonne Woods improved to 4-3 overall and 4-1 in 1-1A with a 46-38 victory over Arcadia.
