Prep football: Haughton routs Captain Shreve; Plain Dealing loses heartbreaker

The Haughton Bucs snapped a four-game losing streak with a 41-0 victory over the Captain Shreve Gators on Friday night in Haughton in Coach Rodney Guin’s final regular-season game.

The Bucs improved to 6-4 overall and finished 2-4 in District 1-5A. Haughton will be on the road for in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs Friday. Pairings will be announced Sunday.

The Bucs rolled to a 20-0 first-half lead against Shreve (3-7, 1-5) and then blew the game open with three third-quarter touchdowns.

Haughton rolled up 335 total yards and held the Gators to 94.

Senior quarterback Darius Brooks completed all five passes he attempted for 92 yards, including touchdowns of 25 and 45 yards to Josh Lister.

Brooks also scored the first TD of the game on a 1-yard run and finished with 40 yards on the ground on eight carries.

Senior Kei’Untre Normandin rushed for 65 yards on eight carries and scored on an 11-yard run.

Senior D’Kovin Ware scored the final TD of the game on a 49-yard run. He finished with 62 yards on five carries. Eleven Bucs carried the ball as Guin was able to get a lot of players in the game.

The defense also got in on the scoring when T’Marquise Winfield picked up a fumble and went 11 yards for a TD.

Nico Broadway was 5-for-5 on PAT attempts.

Senior defensive back TJ Sweeney led the defense with five solo tackles and one assist. Winfield had two solos and six assists. He also had two tackles for losses.

Harrison Voight had four solo tackles, including two for losses, and two assists. All told, 14 Bucs were in on at least one tackle. Antonio Woodfork had an interception.

Arcadia 20, Plain Dealing 18: At Plain Dealing, the Hornets scored a touchdown and two-point conversion with less than a minute to play to pull out the victory.

The Lions finished the regular-season 3-7 and 2-5 in District 1-1A. Arcadia improved to 7-3 and 4-3. Both teams will be going to the playoffs. Plain Dealing will be on the road.

Junior standout Keldrick Carper gave the Lions an 18-12 lead minutes earlier on a 51-yard run.

The Lions led 12-6 at the half. Carper scored on a 25-yard run and Matt Sullivan returned an interceptions 51 yards for a TD.

Plain Dealing held an Arcadia team averaging 31.3 points to just two offensive touchdowns. The Hornets’ lone touchdown of the first half came on an interception return.
