Things didn’t start well for the Parkway Panthers in their District 1-5A game against Captain Shreve on Thursday night at Preston Crownover Stadium.
The Gators recovered an onsides kick on the opening kickoff. On Parkway’s first possession, the Panthers fumbled deep in their own territory.
But the Parkway defense did its job on both occasions and the Panthers offense got cranked up. The result was a 47-10 victory.
Parkway, ranked No. 7 in the Class 5A poll, improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in District 1-5A. Shreve dropped to 1-5 and 0-3.
Parkway quarterback Keondre Wudtee completed 16 of 26 passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns. The Panthers amassed 543 total yards.
Terrace Marshall caught two touchdown passes covering 19 and 13 yards. He finished with four catches for 87 yards. CJ Morgan scored on a 1-yard run and also caught a 10-yard TD pass.
Robert McKnight led Parkway on the ground with 72 yards on seven carries. He scored on a 16-yard run.
Morgan rushed for 46 yards on six carries and caught five passes for 65 yards. He had a 27-yard run and a 36-yard reception.
Deonte Hawkins made some big plays, catching three passes for 100 yards. Kendall Brown’s 1-yard run and Harrison Hopkins’ PAT gave Parkway a 27-3 halftime lead. EJ Williams scored the Panthers’ final touchdown on a 4-yard run.
Senior linebacker Ryan Black led the Panthers with 11 tackles. Semaj Tarver had seven. Derious Bradford and Kyler Marrus had six each.
