Prep volleyball: Airline downs Northwood for fourth win in last five district games

The Airline Lady Vikings went 1-1 in District 1, Division I volleyball last week, defeating Northwood in four sets and falling to Ruston in a fifth-set tiebreaker.

The victory over Northwood was Airline’s fourth in its last five district games.

The Lady Vikings lost the first set against Northwood 25-20 and then won the next three 25-16, 25-13, 25-13.

Ashley Haigler had three assists, one kill, 22 assists and six digs. Haylea Patterson had five aces, five kills and 17 digs. Lauren Pilcher had six aces, eight kills and four digs. Shelbi Chadick had nine aces, 14 kills and 24 digs.

Against Ruston, the Lady Vikings won the first set 25-16 before losing the second 26-24 and the third 25-19. But they rallied in the fourth, winning 25-22. Ruston took the tiebreaker 15-12.

Chadick had 10 aces, 19 kills, one assist and 19 digs. Kaylea Noble had three aces, 16 kills and 14 digs.

Haigler had five aces, four kills, 16 assists and 12 digs. Cassie Bailey had three aces, four kills, two assists and five digs.

Airline won the JV game 26-24, 25-18.

Bailey had three aces, two kills and seven digs. Noble had three aces, five kills and 27 digs.

The freshman team also beat Ruston 25-20, 20-25, 15-12.

Madison Ennis had two aces, three kills, four assists and seven digs.

Katie Floyd had three aces, one kill, two assists and five digs. Brooklyn Brandon had two aces, four kills and nine digs.

Airline has two regular-season games left. The Lady Vikings host Haughton Tuesday and visit Byrd Thursday.
