The Airline Lady Vikings defeated the Haughton Lady Bucs in four sets in high school volleyball action Tuesday night at Airline.
Haughton dominated the first set and won 25-13. The second set was tight all the way with Airline finally pulling out a 25-23 victory. The Lady Vikings dominated the final two sets, winning 25-14 and 25-15.
Airline’s Ashley Haigler had seven aces, nine assists and seven digs. Haylea Patterson had eight aces, four kills and 10 digs. Shelby Chadick had six aces, 11 kills and 16 digs. Brailey Vance, one of five seniors honored on Senior Night, had four kills and three digs.
Airline improved to 11-16-1 overall and 9-4 in District 1, Division I. The Lady Vikings have won five of their last six non-tournament games. Haughton dropped to 10-12-1 overall. and 4-9.
Airline closes out the season Thursday against Byrd. Haughton closes its season Thursday at Caddo Magnet.
Ruston leads the district at 13-0. Byrd is one game behind at 12-1. Those two teams will represent the district in the playoffs.
Airline will finish third in the district but the Lady Vikings’ power rating is too low to get them in the playoffs. First- and second-place teams in each of the six Division I district automatically qualify. The rest of the 24-team bracket is filled with wild-card teams based on power ratings.
