Residents in District 9 of the Bossier Parish School Board will select a new representative at the Nov. 6 election.

Voters will decide between incumbent Eric Newman or Patrick O’Brien Boling for the seat.

The Press-Tribune reached out to speak with both candidates to find out more about their background and goals for the school board. Due to technical issues, current Dist. 9 representative Eric Newman wasn’t able to respond by press time. The Press-Tribune will share his answers in a separate report

Patrick is a husband, father of two, combat veteran, and businessman. He earned a BA in Speech Communication from Arkansas State University and followed in his father’s footsteps when he joined the Army. Patrick holds a MS in Administration of Justice and Security and a PhD in Organizational Management and is currently studying Industrial Engineering and Management at Louisiana Tech University. He began his civilian career in the business of Industrial Water Consulting and continues to serve in the Louisiana National Guard 1-141 Field Artillery Battalion (Washington Artillery).

Why did you want to run? I am running for Bossier Parish School Board primarily to advocate for student safety and achievement in our local public schools. I was inspired by my grandfather who, after serving in Vietnam, became a teacher and later an administrator. My belief is that all students deserve quality public-school education and it is through collaborative relationships and solid communication with members of our community that we ensure our students are successful academically and in life.

What is your goal? My goal is to stand for the beliefs and values that make our communities great, represent all families, and keep our students safe today and secure their tomorrow

What do you want voters to know about you? I have a website that links to several of my professional and personal social profiles. I invite voters to explore my website and other linked content at https://patrickobrienboling.com/. I am not asking for or taking donations, I am asking for everyone’s help to get the word out.

How do you think you can impact the community? I am a fan of northwest Louisiana and I see in it an untapped economic potential. It takes time to set conditions but I believe by working with others of a similar vision, within a decade our area can become a powerhouse. I am starting with the school board.

Why should someone vote for you? I served a decade of active military service, as a former Bossier City Police reserve officer and I am  currently a Major in the Louisiana National Guard.  I have an educational background having served as an instructor and writer of curriculum.
